Venchi Review 2026: Chocoviar, Cremino and Pistachio Spread From Turin's 1878 Chocolate House

Snap. The dark shell gives way, and there's the soft middle: Piedmont hazelnut cream, a crunch of caramelised almond, a scatter of tiny chocolate pearls rolling across your tongue. Two bites, and it's gone. You reach for the box again before you've even decided to.
That's a Chocoviar, and it's the reason a lot of people discover Venchi, the Turin-born chocolate house that's been at it since 1878. We went through the U.S. store's chocolates, spreads, gift boxes, prices, shipping rules and promotions in October 2026, so you know exactly what to order and how to pay less for it.
The Story: From a Turin Workshop to Broadway
According to Venchi's heritage page, it all started with Silviano Venchi, who at just 20 years old began experimenting with chocolate in a small workshop in Turin in 1878. In 1922 came the Nougatine: crunchy caramelised hazelnuts in a 60% dark chocolate shell, a recipe Venchi says is unchanged for over a century.
After a rough patch, three entrepreneurs relaunched the brand in 1998 and opened a new factory in Cuneo. Chocoviar, the "chocolate caviar" pearls, arrived in 2004. Venchi now says it has more than 350 chocolate recipes, 90 gelato flavors and over 200 directly operated stores in more than 70 countries, with a Broadway store opening in 2018. The U.S. online store ships from a New Jersey warehouse.
What Makes It Different: Piedmont Hazelnuts and Clean Labels
Venchi leans hard on one ingredient: the Piedmont hazelnut, grown in the region around Turin. It shows up in the gianduia, the Cremino layers and the Chocoviar fillings. On its craft page, Venchi lists its chocolates as gluten free, palm oil free and made with no artificial aromas, preservatives or colors, with plant-based options too. Every year, the brand says, it releases more than 20 new recipes.
The other difference is texture. Venchi builds contrast into almost everything: a soft filling against a crunchy shell, smooth spread against whole nuts, chocolate pearls on top of a creamy center. If you find most boxed chocolates a bit one-note, that's the hook.

Chocoviar vs. Cremino: which first?
Go Chocoviar if you want crunch. The Pistachio version, for example, has a pistachio and Piedmont hazelnut filling with whole pistachios inside a dark chocolate shell, covered in toffee crumbs and cocoa nibs. The Nougatine has a hazelnut-cocoa cream heart, a nougatine shell with caramelised almond crumble and a dark coating studded with 75% Chocoviar pearls. Go Cremino if you want melt-in-the-mouth smoothness: the Classic 1878 stacks two layers of milk gianduia with Piedmont hazelnuts around a layer of white chocolate with almond paste.
The spreads: breakfast, but make it Italian
The Pistachio Spread lists 40% pistachios in a 7.05 oz jar, and Venchi suggests it on bread, with fresh fruit or in your own kitchen experiments. Swirl it into yogurt, sandwich it between shortbread or spoon it over warm crêpes. The bundles knock the price down: three pistachio jars were $50.76 instead of $59.70 when we checked.
Gifting: boxes, hampers and calendars
The Assorted Chocoviar Natura Gift Box Small ($30) holds eight different Chocoviar creations, a neat way to taste the whole range. For bigger gestures, hampers run up to $179. Advent calendars start at $26.90 for the Christmas Advent Calendar Vintage Dream and climb to $99 for the chequerboard Prestige edition.

Worried about melting? It's a fair question with chocolate by mail. Venchi's policy is detailed: in warmer months, shipments include FSC-certified paper-wrapped gel packs, and destinations that stay above 75°F need Next Day Air. In mid-October, most of the country is out of the danger zone, which makes this a smart time to order holiday gifts.
