Some cost a little more because a gift box is built in. A couple are simply the same price, just tidier.

The math: bought separately, the candle is $68 and the brick is $38, so $106. The duo is $98 in a Standard Box, an $8 saving. Choose the Gift Box and it's $110, which costs $4 more than the two pieces alone but arrives ready to hand over. Both ingredient lists start with organic olive and babassu oils; the peppermint brick adds sea salt, black poppy seed and clay, and the black brick adds lavender oil, sage hydrosol and activated charcoal.

The math: each brick is $38 on its own, so $76. The duo is also $76. No saving, no premium. You're buying the pairing, which suits a household where one person wants a bright, minty morning bar and another prefers the darker, lavender one.

The Personalized One: Heirloom Tomato Classic

Inside: the Glass Heirloom Tomato Hand Soap ($70) and a Personalized Heirloom Tomato Candle ($92), whose label is hand-written at the brand's Los Angeles workshop. Separately $162; the set is $162 in a Standard Box or $174 in a Gift Box. Calligraphers hand-finish each label, so the brand asks you to allow one to two extra days before it ships, and its advice on the message is "the shorter the better."

Buy this if: you want the brand's signature scent with a name or a date on it, and a hand soap heavy enough to live on the counter.

Inside: the Morning Soap Brick ($38), the Morning Body Wash ($58), the Douglas Fir & Vetiver Candle ($68) and Flamingo Estate Coffee, described as freshly roasted medium roast whole bean. If that coffee matches the $30 Medium Roast bag sold on its own, the pieces add up to about $194, so the kit runs roughly $4 more in a Standard Box ($210 in a Gift Box). The brand pitches it for the new parent or the friend in a long season: a full morning in one box.

Richard's Family & Friends Set ($328)

Nine items founder Richard Christiansen says he gives his closest family and friends: Heritage Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Winter Harvest Persimmon Vinegar, Medium Roast Coffee with Tin, Salsa Macha, Mini Wildflower Honey, Cilantro Citrus Jalapeño Salt, the Exfoliating Peppermint Soap Brick, the Heirloom Tomato Candle and the Sage Rich Cream. We could price six of them individually (about $268 together); the salsa, mini honey and salt weren't listed on their own, so a clean comparison isn't possible. It's final sale.
