T2 Tea Review 2026: Melbourne's Most Colourful Tea Shop, Now Pouring in US Dollars?

The kettle clicks off. You tip a spoonful of loose leaf into a bone-china mug, and the kitchen fills with warm vanilla and malty black tea while the rain taps on the window. That's the mood T2 Tea sells: tea as a small daily ritual, wrapped in bright, unmistakable packaging you'll want to leave out on the counter.
T2 is an Australian brand, but it runs a US storefront with prices in dollars. We went through its teas, teaware, gift packs and policies in October 2026 to see what's worth your cupboard space and how to pay less for it.
The Story: One Shop in Fitzroy, Melbourne
According to T2's About page, the brand was founded by Maryanne Shearer and Jan O'Connor and began in 1996 with a single store in Fitzroy, Melbourne. Thirty years on, the site calls itself home to "30 Years of Extraordinary Tea, Teaware & Gifts", and its tea now turns up in restaurants and cafés as well as its own shops.
The brand leans hard into design. T2 says almost all of its teaware is created by its in-house design studio in Melbourne, with other pieces sourced from studios in France, Japan, India and Nepal. That's why a T2 order rarely looks like a plain grocery run. It looks like a gift, even when it's just for you.
What Makes T2 Different
- Flavour-forward blends. Think vanilla-sweet breakfast teas, Earl Grey with rose and hibiscus petals, and dessert-style tins like Vanilla Sugar Shortbread. If plain black tea bores you, this is the shop that fixes it.
- Every format in one place. Most blends come as a 100g loose leaf cube, a 25-pack of tea bags, 250g refills and tall tins, so you can try small and stock up later.
- Sourcing and packaging. T2 says its tea has been 100% sustainably sourced since 2021, its organic teabags are compostable, and almost all of its packaging can be recycled. Loose leaf cubes are sealed in a compostable bag inside a recyclable cardboard box.
- Teaware with a point of view. Mugs with built-in infusers, tea-for-one sets and patterned teapots, many with stainless steel infusers, so loose leaf is as easy as a tea bag.

Melbourne Breakfast or French Earl Grey?
These are the two names T2 puts front and centre in its "Most Loved" row. Melbourne Breakfast is described as full-bodied black tea with smooth, sweet vanilla. T2 suggests one teaspoon per cup, 2–4 minutes in freshly boiled water, and says it works on its own or with a dash of milk. French Earl Grey is lighter: a medium-bodied black tea base with sweet fruits, rose, sunflower and hibiscus, finished with bergamot. T2 recommends 2–3 minutes and no milk, so the floral notes come through. A slice of lemon is its suggested twist, and it can be iced too. Buy Melbourne Breakfast if you take your tea strong and milky. Buy French Earl Grey if you drink it black and like a perfumed cup.
The gift packs: advent calendar vs. Greatest Hits
The Kentaro Yoshida advent calendar holds 24 tea bags in individual sachets, wrapped in the Tokyo artist's illustrations of his childhood neighbourhood. T2 lists black teas such as French Earl Grey, Melbourne Breakfast and Christmas Breakfast, plus herbal teas, oolongs and rooibos behind the doors. The Twenty Greatest Hits tin is the year-round version: 20 individually wrapped bags of T2's most-loved black, green, fruit and floral blends, from Chai and Crème Brulee to Jasmine Pear and Sticky Date Delight, in a tin you'll want to keep. Buy the calendar for a December treat; buy Greatest Hits as a sampler or a teacher gift any time.
Mug with infuser or a proper teapot?
The Loom Blue Mug with Infuser is 400ml fine bone china with a stainless steel infuser that drops right into the mug. T2 recommends hand washing; it's not for the dishwasher or microwave. The Retroglaze Denim Teapot is porcelain with a stainless steel infuser and a 900ml capacity, so you can brew a full pot for the table. Solo sipper? Mug. Weekend brunch host? Teapot.
