Sightglass Coffee Review 2026: San Francisco Beans Roasted to Order, Ground for Your Brewer

It's 7:10 on a Saturday. The kettle is ticking, the grinder has just gone quiet, and a little cloud of milk chocolate and mandarin is drifting up from the filter. The bag on the counter was roasted a few days ago in California, after you ordered it, not months ago in a warehouse. That's the whole idea behind Sightglass Coffee: coffee roasted to order, mailed fresh, and made to taste like the café down the street even when there isn't one.
We went through Sightglass's coffee menu, subscriptions, prices and policies in October 2026. Here's what's worth ordering, which bag suits which kind of morning, and how to pay less for it.
The Story: A Coffee Cart in a 1914 Warehouse
Sightglass says it started in 2009 with "a small, rickety service-cart" in San Francisco's SoMa district. The setup was a few Chemex pots and a leaky vintage two-group espresso machine, serving the neighborhood from behind a roll-up garage door in a sturdy warehouse built in 1914. Two years later, the whole warehouse had become its production roastery, coffee bar, gathering space and headquarters.
The name is a nice detail. A "sightglass" is the little viewing window on a coffee roaster, and Sightglass named itself after the one on its vintage PROBAT, the window that lets the roaster watch beans change color second by second. Today the brand roasts locally in San Francisco and Los Angeles and runs cafés in SoMa, the Mission, Divisadero, Hollywood and Berkeley.
What Makes It Different: Roasted After You Click "Order"
Plenty of roasters say "fresh." Sightglass publishes a schedule. According to its shipping page, it roasts Monday to Friday, and orders placed before 1:00 PM PST Monday through Thursday are processed the same day and roasted the next. So the date on your bag is days old when it lands, not weeks.
- Ground for your brewer. Every bag we checked comes as whole bean or ground for French press, AeroPress, pour over, Chemex, automatic drip, percolator/cold brew or espresso. No guessing at a grind setting.
- Three bag sizes. 12 oz, 2 lb and 5 lb on core blends. Sightglass says a 12 oz bag makes about 17 cups with its café recipe, a 2 lb bag about 45 and a 5 lb bag about 113.
- Direct sourcing. The brand says it buys freshly harvested lots through direct relationships with producers and cooperatives, travels to origin through the year and pays premiums for quality.
- A freshness window you can plan around. Sightglass says its coffee tastes its brightest for up to six weeks after the roast date, and recommends finishing an opened bag within two weeks.

Blueboon or Owl's Howl?
Sightglass calls Blueboon its "go-to Saturday morning cup," a versatile blend that suits any brew method. Buy it if your household runs on a drip machine or a French press and everyone drinks from the same pot. Owl's Howl is the flagship espresso blend, the one Sightglass says it uses for every espresso drink in its cafés, with cacao nib, stone fruit and candied orange peel notes. Buy it if you have an espresso machine and want your latte to taste like the one on 7th Street.
When a single origin is worth it
The single origins are where Sightglass gets adventurous. In October 2026 the menu included a Kenya from Malaki Estate with nectarine, boysenberry and elderflower notes, an organic Ethiopia Worka Chelbessa, and a limited natural Gesha from producer Silvia Herrera in the highlands of Chiapas, with guava, persimmon and milk chocolate notes. Buy one if you brew pour over or AeroPress and like to taste each cup slowly. Note that some lots are labeled "Leaving Soon," so a favorite may not come back.
The Women of Coffee series
This limited series rotates seasonally and features women coffee farmers from different regions. The current Colombia release ($25 for a 10.9 oz bag) comes through Siruma Coffee, Valentina Duque's export organization, with toffee, Concord grape and nougat notes. Buy it if you like knowing exactly whose work is in your cup.

Sightglass Coffee FAQ
How fresh will my coffee be?
Sightglass roasts after you order, Monday to Friday. Orders placed before 1:00 PM PST Monday–Thursday are processed that day and roasted the next. The roast date is printed on the back of the bag.
Which grind should I choose?
Pick the option that matches your brewer: French press, AeroPress, pour over, Chemex, automatic drip, percolator/cold brew or espresso. Choose whole bean if you grind at home. Since grind mistakes can't be refunded, check before you order.
Can I pause or cancel a subscription?
Yes. Sightglass says there's no commitment: you can pause, skip, change or cancel from your account, and you get an email three days before each order is processed.
Does Sightglass ship outside the US?
No. It ships within the United States and to US military outposts only.
Our Verdict
Sightglass Coffee earns its place on the counter by doing the unglamorous parts well: roasting to order, grinding for your exact brewer and printing the roast date where you can see it. Start with Blueboon for everyday drip, Owl's Howl for espresso, or a single origin if you like to taste the farm. Then let a bundle or subscription take 10–15% off. Check our Sightglass Coffee deals page before you order so you catch the current offer.
