Crate & Barrel Review 2026: Is Its Kitchen and Tabletop Shop Worth It for Home Cooks?

Crate & Barrel Review 2026: Is Its Kitchen and Tabletop Shop Worth It for Home Cooks?

Picture the table on Thanksgiving: a heavy enameled Dutch oven still ticking with heat, stoneware plates stacked and waiting, a wooden board loaded with bread. Everything matches without looking like it came out of the same box. That calm, put-together kitchen is exactly the look Crate & Barrel has been selling for more than six decades.

The store does furniture too, but this review sticks to what matters for cooks and hosts: cookware, kitchen tools, tabletop and serveware. We went through the Kitchen and Tabletop & Bar departments, prices, shipping charges, the return policy and the rewards program in October 2026.

The Story: A Honeymoon Idea on Chicago's Wells Street

Crate & Barrel's About Us page says it was founded by Gordon and Carole Segal in 1962, after a European honeymoon gave them the idea of bringing simple, beautiful, practical housewares to the U.S. Their first shop sat in an old elevator factory on Chicago's Wells Street and used the actual crates and barrels the goods shipped in as display fixtures, which is where the name comes from.

Today the company is part of the Otto Group, lists 89 stores and 8 outlets, and says its merchants work with more than 100 artists and designers worldwide. For a kitchen shopper, that means two things in one cart: big-name cookware brands and Crate & Barrel's own exclusive designs.

What Makes It Different: Name Brands Plus "The Kitchen by Crate"

On the brand side, the Kitchen department carries Le Creuset, Staub, All-Clad, KitchenAid, Breville, Caraway, Cuisinart, Lodge, Wüsthof and more, often with seasonal markdowns. On the in-house side there's The Kitchen by Crate, a signature line designed by Crate & Barrel's own team that covers cookware, bakeware, utensils, cutting boards, glass storage and kitchen soaps.

The headline of that line right now is EvenCook Ceramic nonstick cookware, newly offered in Rosemary and Indigo. The 8-piece set's spec sheet lists hard-anodized aluminum bodies, a scratch-resistant ceramic nonstick surface that's safe with metal utensils, stay-cool stainless V-shaped handles and smooth interior rivets so food doesn't get trapped. It's oven- and broiler-safe to 500°F and made without PFAS. The honest caveats are printed too: medium heat is recommended, spray oils are out, and it doesn't work on induction.

EvenCook Ceramic set vs. a Le Creuset Dutch oven

They solve different problems. The EvenCook Ceramic set gives you a whole kitchen of pans in one color: 8" and 10" fry pans, a 3.2-qt. saucepan with lid, a 6-qt. Dutch oven with lid and a 3.25-qt. sauté pan with lid, plus a bonus restoring sponge and four felt pan protectors for stacking. Buy it if you cook eggs, fish and weeknight stir-fries and want easy release. The Le Creuset Signature 6.5-Qt. is one pot, but it's the pot for slow braises, chili and crusty no-knead bread. At $289.95 against a suggested $460 when we checked, it's the kitchen splurge that's actually on sale. Buy it if your favorite meals take three hours and fill the house with smells.

Building a table for the holidays

The Tabletop & Bar department lists more than 2,600 items, but the Marin and Hudson stoneware lines make it simple: buy dinner plates in a set of 8, add the Marin Botanical platter ($69.95) and the Grove Stoneware Serving Bowls, Set of 3 ($89.95), and finish with Marin European linen napkins ($15 each). Buy these if you're hosting this season and want a table that looks considered, not cobbled together.

Our Verdict

Crate & Barrel is where a kitchen comes together: a marked-down Le Creuset for slow Sunday braises, an EvenCook set in a color you'll want to leave on the stove, and stoneware that makes a weeknight pasta look like a dinner party. Shop the sale pages first, watch for free-shipping windows, and lean on the extended holiday return period if you're buying gifts.
